Trevors build17

Well as I said in the last post I had some bad things happen. This was major as the fan departed company from the craft.  The pics show the resulting damage which was thankfully not a great deal. The fan guard did its job and took the brunt of the damage. The rubber wellnuts pulled away from the duct and I have since added brackets around the side of the duct to strengthen that up.  This incedent shows what can happen and I am thankful there was no personal injuries as my wife was close by with the camera.  Why did it happen I can hear you ask ?  No 1   I did not key the fan boss onto the shaft.  The marks left on the shaft show the fan screwed itself of in 10 revolutions when I gave it full power. The fan boss was attached to the shaft with a standard taperlock system. Their specs give a torque setting  for the grubscrews  with or without a keyway.  No 2  There was no physical safe stop to protect  the fan from coming off.  I am angry with myself for not following my gut feel and not put on that safety stopper.  Obviously the fan was a write off which was a costly  mistake. It took a while to get my confidence back  and I am still wary.  Please be 100 percent  sure with you transmission set up and if you have doubts check  with someone with experience in these matters.  On a brighter note the craft is up and running but more on that in the next post.
